tarek Mrad – Community Advocate and Disability ChampionTarek began his community journey in 2018 with Our Barn Community, enrolling on one of their leadership programmes. Through this, he became involved with Heston West Big Local, initially as a participant in various activities, including walking football and the cooking club. His passion for community work quickly grew, and he soon joined the board.During his time with Heston West Big Local, particularly throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, Tarek co-led The Big Local Podcast Show. Over this period, the podcast produced more than 60 episodes, featuring interviews with a wide range of guests—from local community groups and MPs to national and international voices—highlighting inspiring stories and initiatives.In 2020, Tarek was recognised as one of the BBC’s Community Heroes for London, proudly representing Hounslow. A committed advocate for disability awareness, Tarek has consistently used his platform to promote inclusion and positive change. He has served as an ambassador for Big Local, championing accessibility and equal opportunities.Among his many contributions, he played a leading role in organising a disability Boccia tournament, encouraging residents with disabilities across Hounslow—including those in supported living and care homes—to participate. Tarek remains an active member of the local community, supporting various organisations and proudly flying the flag for disability awareness and empowerment.
